Southland Elementary

We're reading a book this week that we just love.  It's called Sweet Tooth by Margie Palatini and illustrated by Jack E. Davis.  It's about a kid, driven by his sweet tooth (a very outspoken and demanding character) to misbehave when ever there are sweets around.  (Sound familiar - it hits me in a very personal way.)  He finally goes "cold turkey" (a phrase we discuss the meaning of), and cuts off his sweet tooth from all sugar.  He finally dislodges the tooth with a dreaded carrot, and the tooth is undone by an orange veggie.  2nd through 6th do best with this book.  It's a bit confusing to the younger set.  We love the illustrations and enjoy using a different and harsh voice for the obnoxious  sweet tooth.  It's a fun read.
