We love to read this book to the older grades for Thanksgiving. It is a biography so it is also a good time to refresh their minds on what a biography is and how you find them. It tells a cute version of Sarah Hale and what determination she had for seeing that Thanksgiving is a national holiday and also to find out what other things she is famous for (she fought against spanking, the kids love that tidbit). The kids get a kick out of the fact that they call her a Super Hero and that some super heroes are little ladies...never underestimate dainty little ladies!
I like to ask the kids if they would be as diligent as Sarah. Sarah wrote several presidents and continued on her quest for 38 years until President Lincoln signed it into law.
