Herriman (Try, Try, Again)

In preparation for the wonderful month of February, we put up an interactive bulletin board that greets our students.  It has a large heart on it that reads, "The Books We Read and Love."  We also displayed some of the covers from our new books we have received.  We have some pre-cut hearts for each student to write the name of a favorite book on.  Then we attach it to our bulletin board.  In this way, students can share favorite books and look at the titles to find a great new book.  The students have really enjoyed this activity.

I have also done a pair/share with the books Woodchuck (Nature's Children) and Groundhog day (by Gail Gibbons) as my informational books and Substitute Groundhog (by Pat Miller) for story time.   There are a lot of fun facts about the characteristics of groundhogs (woodchucks).
